Welcome to Young Choreographers – The Festival 2017. We invite you to take part in 4 exciting days with performances by young choreographers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Greece, and Belgium, alongside a full program of classes, workshops, and events.
Come and get surprised, inspired, moved, challenged, intrigued or provoked and explore works by a brand new generation of choreographers.
We have curated the performances from four different themes:
New kids on the block – brand new pieces, graduate performances and new choreographersRelease me from tradition – performances seeking new ways of working with genres, narratives and/or aestheticsDancetopia – performances working with utopia as a themeNo time like the present – performances displaying a critical view on today's society
Each day you can experience two different performance blocks and get to meet the artists in networking events after each block.
Young Choreographers – The Festival aims to connect performers across borders and communities and to serve as a platform for young artists to show their work and share their visions for dance and choreography.
Young Choreographers is an ongoing platform at HAUT, which took place for the first time in 2015. This year, the festival takes place in a brand new theater in the meatpacking district in Copenhagen which HAUT shares with Sort/Hvid theater.
HAUT aims to create a space for development and research and to encourage and enable a new generation of artists to challenge the norm and break the traditions within performing arts and the theater.
The doors open at 17.00, where we will serve you a complimentary drink and present this year’s program in an opening speech.
Choreographer Runa Norheim and Scenographer Ida Grimsgaard will open the festival’s performing program by making an opening ceremony concerning group dynamics.
Claqueurs will lead the audience through an experience and the brand-new building, kicking off the festival with several applauds to come.
Claquers/Klakør is an organized body of professional applauders, which was a common way to educating ones audience in classical times. We look forward to let you experience this phenomenon in a contemporary setting and let this lead you further into this year’s festival program.
The project is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Let’s not pretend to be alone here is a physical performance embodying a collective togetherness through different patterns of movement, bodily states, and images. The bodies on stage are morphed from sculptures, into machinery, human subjects, landscapes, and soundscapes.
Let’s not pretend to be alone here seeks to create new universes and understandings of collectiveness. The performers are recent graduates from The Danish National School of Performing Arts and we are really happy to present these newest and most talented Kids on the block.
She looks at you, she dances for you - and you ask yourself: “Is she for real? Is it okay for me to look at her?”
Danielle Eriksson moves in the border land between full control and bad behavior and invites you to participate in a dreamlike universe of desires, fantasies, contrasts, and beats.
We look forward to presenting this “new kid on the block”, with her fast shifting, intimate and unpredictable solo, where anything can happen.
Here’s your chance to meet the artists and get to know each other in an informal setting in the foyer area between the two performance blocks. Let’s get together and enjoy a delicious meal from local food startups curated by Kitchen Collective while sharing our thoughts on the works we have seen at the festival.

Dancing Shakespeare transforms traditional Shakespearean texts into short dance films. The film is then extended outside of the screen when the performer, who is situated in the room, continues the dancing live. We are happy to present for you Macbeth Act 1, sc. which transforms our assumption of what a dance performance can be.
In To see yourself from the outside two performers establish a system of verbalizing movements. The observing one defines the one being observed. To see yourself from the outside questions the traditional separation between talking and dancing, and the relationship between language and movement. The performance seems to ask who, how and what defines the self and the other. At the same time, it unfolds a particular attention to the relationship between body and mind and the physical effects of language.
What comes first, speech or action?
We end the evening with a chilled after hours, where you can hang out in our foyer after a full day of exciting events and performances.
The bar is open and you have the chance to mingle and meet the artists, ask questions, discuss and digest what you have seen and get to know the other festival participants.
